The Block 296 / L.L. Hawkins project is a mixed-use project designed to serve as the anchor development of the Con-Way blocks located in NW Portland, OR. The Con-Way Master Plan envisions a lively and sustainable community where people can come to live, work, shop and play. Block 296 includes a New Season’s grocery within an existing single-story warehouse building built in 1950 that shares a pedestrian plaza and above grade parking with a new 6-story mixed-use apartment building. The apartment building is five stories of wood-frame construction above a concrete podium with below-grade parking for residents. There is 114 housing units including a mixture of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. The building features a green roof and storm water planters. At grade a mix of retail uses will complement New Season’s and create a critical mass of new stores and shopping destinations. Located only a few blocks from the street car line and primary bus routes, Block 296 is a ‘jumping off’ point and a destination. The project was completed in October of 2015.
